City of Adelaide Lord Mayor Martin Haese has today announced the resignation of City of Adelaide CEO Peter Smith.

The Lord Mayor said that Peter had led the organisation through a remarkable period of change in the city.

“I have only had the pleasure of working with Peter for a short time, but it is clear to see the enormous contribution he has made to the organisation and the fantastic outcomes he and his staff have achieved for the city.

“Peter should be proud of his considerable achievements over the last six and half years and of leading a team of people who are passionate and dedicated to creating the best outcomes for the city.

“As the new Lord Mayor I wanted Peter to stay on for this term, however Peter has decided to leave to pursue new opportunities and I can only respect that decision.

“Council members have met confidentially over the last couple of weeks to work through the impacts of Peter leaving and to develop a succession plan.

“On behalf of all Council members, I would like to thank Peter for his professionalism, his dedication, his hard work and for being a true visionary and inspirational leader and we wish him all the very best for the future. ”

Peter said that he was grateful for the support of the Lord Mayor and Elected Members and their understanding of this difficult decision.

“I have been honoured to be able to lead a great organisation and to serve the City Council and the people of the City of Adelaide for the last six and a half years.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working in the role and with the many great people that I have worked with externally, internally and on Council. I have made many friends and am incredibly grateful for the loyalty, support and wise counsel of my colleagues.

“I believe that as Council and Administration we have achieved some fantastic outcomes for the city and the people who use it

“It is with mixed feelings that I leave Council and the decision has come about after quite a few months of deliberation.

“I was keen to see the new Council through their first six months and help them form into a strong team. I believe this has now occurred and the Council and Administration are well placed to make the city an even better place in the future.

“It’s now time to pass the baton on to a new CEO and move onto the next stage in my career.” Peter’s last day at City of Adelaide will be Friday 10 April.
