City of Adelaide Calls For Help On Clean Up Australia Day

The City of Adelaide is encouraging everyone to roll up their sleeves, don a hat and a pair of gloves and join Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 4 March from 9am.

This year’s City of Adelaide clean-up will be held in Walya Yarta (Park 21), near Veale Gardens. The site is easily accessible by public transport and has easy parking.

Everyone who participates gets a certificate of appreciation, a bottle or two of iced cold water and a thank you BBQ lunch hosted by Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Martin Haese.

“This will be the 14th year that the City of Adelaide will be hosting a Clean Up Australia Day event. This is an event that shows people are willing to do something themselves to help protect and care for their environment,” said the Lord Mayor.

“Last year, 28 participants collected around 200 kilos of rubbish from the site in Kurangga Park
(Park 20).

“We’re so lucky in Adelaide to have the beautiful Park Lands surrounding our CBD which is our community’s big back yard. We really do owe it to ourselves and to future generations to look after the natural environment so we can all enjoy it long into the future

“Join us to help clean up and conserve the environment. It is the perfect opportunity for everyone to come together and help clean up our Park Lands.”

Volunteers are being asked to meet next at the lower carpark, Adelaide Pavilion (Veale Gardens) in Walya Yarta (Park 21).

Gloves, water and sunscreen will be provided but participants are required to wear closed toe shoes. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Groups, including schools and community organisations are asked to pre-register on the website here.

Individuals are also asked to pre-register on the website or can simply turn up on the day
