Father Christmas has arrived and it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the City of Adelaide. From lights and decorations to food and gift ideas, the city is the place to be for all things Christmas.

The Credit Union Christmas Pageant on Saturday signalled the start of the festive season as people of all ages gathered along the streets of Adelaide. This year was extra special as it was the Pageant’s 85th birthday.

The City of Adelaide has produced a brochure and comprehensive website that features information about shopping, eating, Christmas events, parking, and trading hours, along with an interactive map that makes it easy to find all the festive season activities.

Lord Mayor of Adelaide Martin Haese said that Christmas is a magical time to be in the city and the website will ensure people enjoy the lead up to Christmas.

“The city will come alive with decorations and lights scattered throughout the city’s squares and streets, and there will be many exciting activities and events for everyone to enjoy.

“For those struggling to find that perfect present, we’ve worked with businesses to compile a list of shopping offers and gift ideas, including guides to help you shop locally and sustainably.

“It’s going to be a musical Christmas in the City of Adelaide, celebrating Adelaide’s status as the only UNESCO City of Music in Australia.

“Rundle Mall’s Voices of Christmas ten-day musical spectacular will feature live and digital performances by an assortment of musical voices from across the state.

“Bustle and Bells – Christmas Songs in the City, is a collaboration between the City of Adelaide and Music SA which will showcase 16 pop-up Christmas musical performances across the city.

“And don’t forget the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Gala concert on 10 December when the Adelaide Town Hall will be filled with the sounds of Christmas and classical greats.

“There is so much to see and do this Christmas so come into the city and enjoy the community – and musical – spirit.”

The giant Christmas Tree in Victoria Square / Tarntanyangga will be lit up on Friday 1 December. Bring the whole family and enjoy music, food and festivities from 6-9pm. The Square will be turned into a festive hub from 15 – 24 December with performances, children’s workshops and games for kids throughout the day.

Adelaide Town Hall will be lit up once again this festive season with a magical Christmas and New Year’s projection display. The display is on every night from sunset from 18 November until 1 January.

There are numerous Christmas markets happening through the city and North Adelaide in November and December featuring many unique gift ideas, often produced by local artists and craftspeople.
