Aaron Brumby has been appointed as the General Manager of the Adelaide Central Market – recently named as number 10 in Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in Australia for 2015.

Adelaide Central Market Authority (ACMA) Board Chairperson, Nick Begakis AO, said Aaron will help to lead the next phase of the development of the Adelaide Central Market, which currently has a stallholder waiting list.

Nick said while Aaron brings a small business, retail and property management background to the role, it is his personal characteristics and passion for the Adelaide Central Market that stood out and will resonate with traders.

“Aaron will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the market and working with traders is crucial to this – they are the heart and soul of the market,” Nick said.

“The selection panel found Aaron to be a good communicator with an excellent listening and collaborative style. He brings energy, enthusiasm and genuine interest in the wellbeing of our traders together with an understanding of the unique offerings at the market.

“The Adelaide Central Market is an icon loved by South Australians and visitors; however it is also the livelihood for many people and their families who run a small business at the market.

“We are very conscious of this and Aaron will work together with our traders, the Board and others, to help develop and particularly implement a series of strategies to ensure its prosperity.”

Currently Renewal SA’s Asset Management Director, Aaron said he is looking forward to meeting traders, the ACMA team and other stakeholders before commencing in the role from 24 March.

“Being Adelaide born-and-bred, I am excited and privileged at the opportunity to work closely with the market traders, in a collaborative way, and to grow the markets’ prosperity and unique offering,” Aaron said.

“Having attended the market regularly since the age of eight, I have very fond memories of walking through the laneways between the stalls with my family, and being in awe of the energy and unique environment that exists.”

Nick added that Acting General Manager, Gavin Webster, has been exemplary and helped to stabilise management during his tenure. He said ACMA is extremely grateful for his contribution.

The Adelaide Central Market is a subsidiary of the City of Adelaide, with Cr Megan Hender the elected member representative on the ACMA Board, while Franz Knoll is the trader voice.
