Australia Day in the City

There is plenty of action happening in the city this Australia Day with something for everyone, from sports fans to music fans to shoppers.

City of Adelaide Lord Mayor encouraged people to come in and enjoy what’s on offer.

“It’s going to be a great day out in the city so come on in and soak up the atmosphere.

“There’s cricket at Adelaide Oval with Australia battling it out with India which is sure to be an exciting game.

“Rundle Mall will be open so hit the shops, have some fun with the jumping castle or grab a snag from the traditional Aussie BBQ.

“The Australia Day Parade will feature more than 150 community groups, starting from Victoria Square at 6pm and making its way to Elder Park via King William Street.

“Following this is of course our family-friendly Australia Day concert, featuring Aussie musicians and spectacular fireworks and expected to draw a crowd of more than 35,000 people.

“Bring in the family, meet your friends and make a day of it in the city.”

Popstar Samantha Jade will headline this year’s Australia Day celebrations in Elder Park from 7pm.

Four-piece Melbourne pop/rock band Masketta Fall will also be performing and the Australian Defence Forces will perform the 21 Gun Salute from the King William Street Bridge in conjunction with an F-18 flypast. And don’t miss the finale when the sky above the city will light up with spectacular fireworks.

Rundle Mall will be open from 11am - 5pm with free entertainment throughout the day, including a shark obstacle jumping castle, street theatre by Stilt Cricketers, and our roving Aussie kangaroo will be giving out free Australia Day tattoos.

To make it easy and convenient to come into the city and celebrate Australia Day, all UParks apart from the Central Market will have a $7 flat fee to park all day. Visit UPark to find opening hours and locations.

UPark on Gawler Place is a short walk to King William Road and Elder Park for those going to the cricket, the parade or the concert, and will be open until midnight.

UPark on Topham is also only a short walk to King William Road and Elder Park and you can guarantee your parking space by booking online.

Please note that two hour event parking restrictions will apply around Adelaide Oval in North Adelaide on Australia Day to ensure North Adelaide residents and businesses can still access parking, and our Parking and Information Officers will be monitoring the area.

We encourage drivers to read parking signs carefully before leaving their car. Anyone can receive SMS or email notifications of
