Adelaide Art Walks Embrace the West End

The content of this media release is over six months old and may no longer be current.

The popular Adelaide Art Walk is back and taking over Hindley Street West starting on Thursday 6 August, running through to Saturday 8 August from 7 to 10pm, as part of the annual South Australian Living Arts Festival, will be the biggest yet.

Lord Mayor Martin Haese said Adelaide Art Walks have become a popular event on the city calendar and the West End Art Walk provides a different perspective to art around the city with interactive exhibition events showcasing local artists and artwork.

“The West End Art Walk, by using more than one venue to exhibit, is able to illustrate the beauty, innovation and local creativity that is alive and well in the city’s West end.

“It really is a unique experience, and one in which you can immerse yourself while celebrating some of the best local arts scene in our city,” said Martin.

West End Art Walk is the result of collaboration between event organiser Grace Coy and installation artist Monica Prichard, who first met during previous Splash Adelaide initiatives.

Their collaboration is an example of the intention of Splash Adelaide to support the community to develop and deliver accessible events and activities to others.

“Due to the success of the last Art Walk on Melbourne Street, we decided to seek out other creative hubs around the city and take art out of the traditional gallery spaces in the west end and place it in the street for everyone to enjoy,” Grace said.

“As well as the art on display there will also be interactive urban art displays, pop-up bars, great food, and live music and street performances.

“Art Walkers will be able to make their own art, meet the artists, enjoy local food and wine, win prizes and enjoy a collaborative community atmosphere.

“Splash Adelaide has really supported our vision for a unique art experience and Monica and I encourage anyone with creative ideas for the city to look out for the next round of Splash applications,” she said.

Tickets are $12 online or $15 at the door which includes a glass of wine on arrival, interactive map and Adelaide Art Walks bag.

Tickets and location details will be available on the Adelaide Art Walks website.
