Adelaide will feature as one of the world’s Smart Cities in a new National Geographic television documentary series. City of Adelaide is delighted to participate with the State Government of South Australia, University of South Australia and Flinders University to showcase the City’s credentials as a creative, connected and intelligent city.

Adelaide has not only been selected as one of the 18 Smart Cities of the world, but also to officially launch the series at the Adelaide Oval.

Taking part in the National Geographic series has presented a great opportunity for Adelaide to showcase to a huge international and national audience what makes the City special. Adelaide has a growing population brimming with innovation and creativity – both technologically and culturally.

The documentary will air from 12 February 2014 and reach over 435 million households in 173 countries and over 35 million online and social media followers.

Adelaide continues to shine worldwide. In 2013, Adelaide was voted the fifth most liveable city in the world and rated as Australia’s safest city by Suncorp. Adelaide is widely recognised as Australia’s ‘learning city’ with links to five Nobel Laureates and its universities consistently ranks amongst the Australia’s top universities for research. In 2014, Adelaide is listed by Lonely Planet as one of the top ten cities in the world to visit and has been described as “effortlessly chic” in the New Yorker Magazine.
