What a Pawsome Idea
One hundred businesses will proudly display a dog bowl in their shop windows and outdoor spaces, with Council providing a map of the trail that can be downloaded or collected from participating businesses for art (and dog) lovers to discover each bowl across the city and North Adelaide.
Participating in the ‘Pawsome Art Trail’ has many benefits for local businesses, including increased foot traffic of both the human and four-legged friend variety.
Bowls have been painted by established and emerging community artists and children – including some very enthusiastic students from Tutti Arts and St Patrick’s Special School. Nine ‘mega bowls’ have been painted by high-profile SA artists and will be dotted along the trail during SALA and auctioned at the end of the festival with all proceeds going to Guide Dogs SA/NT. Guide Dogs SA/NT’s Ambassadogs and their puppy friends will help launch the Pawsome Art Trail this evening in North Adelaide.
Lord Mayor Martin Haese was full of praise for the trail that helps generate foot traffic for local businesses in the cooler, quieter winter months while providing exposure for SALA and for the great work Guide Dogs do in the community.
“This great project helps Guide Dogs SA/NT continue to provide vital services to the community,” said the Lord Mayor.
“We think that local businesses will also benefit from the opportunity and hope that people enjoy taking part in SALA, which is a tremendous festival, while they’re supporting some great local businesses.”
“The Pawsome Art Trail is a fantastic initiative to raise awareness and funds for Guide Dogs SA/NT, while celebrating the special place that dogs hold in our creative imagination. With the support of the City of Adelaide and SALA, we will continue enabling independence, participation, inclusion and wellbeing for people living with vision loss and other sensory impairment, and for families of children living with autism,” said Guide Dogs SA/NT CEO Aaron Chia.
Artists include Gorman designer Dana Kinter, Vans the Omega, KAB101, Emma Hack and Elizabeth Close to name just a few. Some of the larger bowls on display are art pieces that are impractical for dogs to drink from but dog owners are assured that there will be plenty of bowls for thirsty dogs to enjoy a drink.
The Pawsome Art Trail launches tonight at 6:00pm at David Roche Gallery, Melbourne Street, North Adelaide.
