Play Todd's Adelaide And Find Adelaide's Original Techno Hipster-Geek

Be amongst the first to play Todd’s Adelaide, a new interactive app revealing the story of Adelaide’s first tech geek and be in the running to win iTunes or Google Play vouchers on Friday 3 October between 11.00am and 3.00pm.

Todd’s Adelaide is a free mobile app available through iTunes and Google Play, and Sir Charles Todd’s story begins outside the City Library in Francis Street, off Rundle Mall and follows a walking trail through the city.

“Sir Charles Todd, was the original techno-geek, and we have created an app that tracks some of the amazing things he did in Adelaide during his lifetime,” said Roger Edmonds, CEO/Creative Director of Mobile Adventures Australia.

“The app is the product of a collaboration between six Adelaide science societies and is intended to spark the interests of young people with a passion for science, for local history and for sporting history.

“Many don’t realise that Sir Charles commissioned the Overland Telegraph that connected Australia to the rest of the world back in 1872, or that he commissioned the GPO tower clock and then built it!

“All of this and so much more is logged on the trail using this new app. We chose to promote it during the school holidays so young people, who are often the most tech savvy, have the first chance to use the app, and also have an opportunity to win prizes,” said Roger Edmonds, CEO/Creative Director of Mobile Adventures Australia.

Sir Charles Todd was a true pioneer in many areas the people of Adelaide take for granted today. For example, the data he collected through his meteorological studies more than 150 years ago is used today to help benchmark climate change analysis.

Todd played a part in the establishment of the University of Adelaide, the School of Mines (now part of Uni SA), the State Library, SA Museum and Art Gallery, two churches and several other societies and institutions.

To be part of the inaugural Sir Charles Todd walk, head to Francis Lane off Rundle Mall, between 11am and 3pm on Friday, register to play, pick up a free “Toddy Bag” and begin the journey.

Participants who visit at least 10 locations and then head back to the City Library have the chance to win one of the prizes on offer.
