Adelaide Town Hall will come alive with the sounds of Christmas, along with classical and modern greats, on Sunday 10 December from 2pm at the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Gala Concert for 2017.

Hosted by well-loved Adelaide identity Keith Conlon, this year’s Gala features some new artists and some Gala favourites.

Performers include Young Adelaide Voices, Julian Ferraretto, Bev Harrell, The McCall Sisters and the Adelaide University Medical Orchestra. It will be a musical journey through time.

Award-winning youth choir Young Adelaide Voices will open the show with a collection of classic tunes and Christmas Carols.

Julian Ferraretto, violinist, guitarist, and Adelaide resident will play this year as a soloist.

The McCall Sisters return and will be joined by Anthony Leppa. They will be displaying their tremendous range with songs from the opera, music theatre and Louis Prima, as well as a classic track from the musical Evita.

Bev Harrell, a household name from the 60s and 70s, will be the feature artist of the afternoon. Bev will belt out crowd favourite Respect, along with her own special medley and some Christmas classics.

Bev will be followed by the Adelaide Uni Medical Orchestra Christmas Crew who will be accompanied by Black Cat Theatre mimes and a possible visit from the North Pole.

Lord Mayor of Adelaide Martin Haese said that this year was a very musical Christmas for the City of Adelaide, with the Gala just one of many musical events happening throughout the city.

“Adelaide is the only UNESCO City of Music in Australia, and was also recently named by Lonely Planet as Australia’s music capital, and this year’s Gala concert is a reflection of that.

“It is also a celebration of different styles and eras of music, and of course Christmas Carols that we all know and love.

“The Christmas Gala Concert is a long-standing tradition of joining with the community to celebrate the Town Hall’s history and welcome Christmas with a wonderful variety of music.

“I will even be joining the band for the grand finale performance of Do They Know It’s Christmas, originally written for Band Aid in 1984.

“I would love to see members of our community joining me for an afternoon of music, history and Christmas cheer. I would also like to wish everyone a wonderful festive season.”
