City of Adelaide continues its support for cultural collaboration

The City of Adelaide has announced two new partnerships under its cultural strategic partnerships program which supports and identifies new opportunities for cultural collaboration.

Creative arts space The Mill and contemporary art institution ACE Open will both receive support to grown and build upon their activities that provide opportunities for creatives and culture makers to grow and thrive.

The Mill will receive support to establish a 12-month program for their exhibition space, featuring work created through four, 12 week arts residencies.

Each residency will comprise of a public program that opens the research, studio and gallery space to the public. The first artist in residence is John Blines whose work “Memorias Exspirare” explores intrusive childhood memories and their effect on mental health.

Director of The Mill, Erin Fowler, said, "The Mill is thrilled to be working in partnership with the City of Adelaide to deliver our exhibition space program over the following 12 months”.

“This will allow us to increase our abilities to incubate culture makers, support sustainable arts practice, grow audiences and facilitate broad cultural engagement.

“This program takes the creative processes of the artist to the public, connecting people to cultural experience, insights, understanding and meaning."

The partnership with ACE Open will provide one South Australian artist the opportunity to evolve their professional practice, enhance their profile, and propel their careers onto the national and international stage through a one-year studio residency grant at this lively and transformative contemporary art institution.

Liz Nowell, the CEO at ACE Open, said, “This partnership will support one South Australian visual artist through ACE Open's Studio Residency Program.

“This 12 month, rent-free studio residency will provide a professional artist the critical time, space, support and freedom to both create new work, and develop their career, at ACE Open, South Australia's flagship contemporary art space.”

City of Adelaide Deputy Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor said that these types of collaborations could bring social, cultural and economic benefits to the artist and to the city.

“These partnerships ensure Adelaide has an engaged, collaborative, knowledgeable and connected cultural community through empowering the City of Adelaide and partners to build on their combined strengths. We look forward to working with The Mill and ACE Open.”

Other City of Adelaide cultural partnerships include Guildhouse, University of South Australia, City Standard, Music SA, South Australian Museum, Australian Dance Theatre, Mighty Kingdom and Young Adelaide Voices.
