City Of Adelaide And City Of Jaipur To Collaborate On Smart City Initiatives

City of Adelaide is excited to announce Jaipur Development Authority representatives will visit Adelaide this week to progress Smart City collaborative opportunities.

Both cities have the unique status of international Cisco smart lighthouse cities and the partnership now provides open opportunities for entrepreneurial communities in both cities and through the Cisco Smart+Connected Digital Platform for future international trade in the digital economy, whilst sharing City to City knowledge and learnings.

City of Adelaide participated in last year’s State Government Business Mission and met with the leaders of Delhi, Jaipur and Mumbai municipal corporations to discuss bilateral collaborative opportunities.

One of the outcomes of this mission was entering a Statement of Intent to collaborate with Jaipur Development Authority being signed as a first step.

City of Adelaide’s new Strategic Plan 2016 – 2020 key themes of Smart and Green strongly align with these Indian City aspirations.

The visit will include the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate and share learnings around smart city developments with the city of Jaipur, India. The two-day schedule starting Monday 9 October and coordinated by City of Adelaide will include;

  • Site visits to special interest areas and introductions to relevant agencies (SA Water, Water Industry Alliance, Smart City Studio, universities)
  • Meeting with Department of State Development Director India Engagement to discuss the South Australia Rajasthan sister state relationship
  • Presentations on City of Adelaide Smart City and entrepreneur start up initiatives and projects that are underway
  • A Future Cities Information Exchange session to prioritise projects to work on

Following a series of information sharing sessions, mutually beneficial projects will be identified involving local start-ups to assist solve Jaipur City challenges using emerging technology solutions grown here in Adelaide.

Councillor Natasha Malani said she was excited that two CISCO Global Lighthouse cities have officially entered a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate and share learnings, expertise and knowledge on their smart city agendas.

“This is the next step in building a prosperous relationship between our two cities that will deliver real benefits for our respective communities,” said Natasha.

“The benefits include better city services through leveraging technology and innovation, enhanced channels to international markets for our innovation and start up community, and a fast track to develop new technology and services through the sharing of our learnings.

“This collaboration supports the sister state relationship between the Governments of Rajasthan and South Australia with the primary objective to open up opportunities local entrepreneurs and further raise Adelaide's profile for investment attraction.”

Sales Manager, Smart+Connected Communities, Australia, Cisco Systems, Budrish (Bud) Kapoor, said that this type of collaboration would be beneficial to both cities.

“Cisco is very excited that two of our Global Lighthouse Cites are collaborating and forming partnerships in their journey to Smart Cities,” said Bud.

“We are confident that knowledge sharing between our Lighthouse customers will serve to accelerate progress and ensure efficiencies in spend.”
