Adelaide Greeters

Adelaide Greeters

Whether you are arriving from overseas, interstate or somewhere within South Australia, why not experience a warm and friendly welcome from an 'Adelaide Greeter'?

Adelaide Greeters offers personalised orientation walks of the city, tailored to your interests and available in multiple languages. Our passionate and knowledgeable volunteers will help you discover Adelaide through various iconic attractions, providing travel advice as well as giving you a local’s perspective on what makes Adelaide one of the most liveable, innovative and creative small cities of the world.

It doesn't matter whether you are coming here for a holiday, on business, to study or are looking to move to Adelaide, the Adelaide Greeter experience will allow you to discover authentic Adelaide .

The service is FREE and is part of the International Greets Association (IGA). Our volunteers are keen for you to enjoy the best of Adelaide and discover our beautiful city. They will help you find your way around to the numerous attractions in the city centre, either on foot or by using our public buses, trains and trams.

Our Service

Walk runs for 2-4 hours. Available 9 am – 5 pm, 7 days a week.

You will be matched with an Adelaide Greeter who speaks your language (when available) and shares your interests, whether it is sport, history, architecture or the arts to name just a few.

You and your Greeter will spend two to four hours together, getting to know Adelaide and exploring the city from a local perspective. They will explain how our public transport system works, assist you to get the most out of your stay in Adelaide, and answer any individual questions you might have.

Adelaide Greeter appointments are suitable for small family groups and individuals. The program is offered as a small one to one type interaction, a friend in the city. They are not professional guided tour experiences, nor do we cater for schools or large groups.

Three business days notice is required for an Adelaide Greeter.

How to Book

Our Greeters

Our Greeters are volunteers who are enthusiastic South Australians, not professional tour guides. They come from all age groups, diverse backgrounds and have a variety of interests. ‘Greeter’ visits are called ‘orientations’ rather than ‘tours’ due to the nature of our service.

A number of our Greeters also speak two or more languages.

Our Organisation

The Adelaide Greeters Service forms part of the City of Adelaide “Visitor Information Services”, joining the ‘City Guides’, ‘First Steps’ and ‘Rundle Mall Visitor Information Centre’ Programs.

These programs provide volunteers with an opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills or practice and improve existing skills whilst providing a friendly environment for visitors to our city.
