Welcome to Adelaide, a UNESCO City of Music. Adelaide is recognised globally for our world-class music festivals, our entrepreneurial music industry, the quality and diversity of our musicians, live music venues and leading music institutes. As a result we are truly a city of music, with an abundance of immense talent being showcased every night of the week across over 50 live music venues around the city.
Live Music Venues
The City also has a strong pub scene with many hotels and bars hosting live bands and acoustic sets that will get your toe tapping in no time, such as The Lion Hotel and the Royal Oak Hotel in North Adelaide, The Hotel Metropolitan (The Metro) and the Duke of York in the West End, and The Austral, The Exeter Hotel, and The Elephant in the East End.
Other musical institutions include the Adelaide Town Hall, which hosts a number of live music events and performances, the Nexus Multicultural Arts Centre offering a stellar line up of world music artists and special events, and Elder Hall where a wonderful mix of music is performed from baroque to jazz and everything in between.
The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra offers a diverse musical spectrum, performing over 100 concerts each year. The ASO provides orchestral support for the State Opera of South Australia, along with the Adelaide Youth Orchestra and the Adelaide Chamber Singers.
Supporting Live Music
City of Adelaide strongly supports South Australian live music and works with artists, businesses, organisations and community groups to activate laneways, squares and open space with tunes from local artists. Council has a Sponsorship and Grants program to foster creativity, cultural and artistic events and activities to ensure an exciting range of live music events and activities in a variety of venues across the City throughout the year.
