St Francis Xavier's Cathedral is right in the centre of the City of Adelaide. The Cathedral is dedicated to the great 16th century Spanish Jesuit missionary saint who is also patron of the Church in Australia and patron of our first bishop Francis Murphy (1844-58).Initial construction began in 1851 and there has been various phases of activity leading to the installation of the tower in 1996. Building of the Cathedral began in 1851, making it the oldest cathedral in Australia.The tower was not completed until 1996 – 145 years almost to the day after workers had dug the first sod for the beginning of work on the Cathedral site.

Originally the name 'Afghan Chapel', this building is reputedly the oldest permanent mosque in Australia. The building is of natinal significance is one of the few relics of Afghan immigration to South Australia and embodies in built form ,Afghan and Islamic culture.Initially funded by group of Afghan and North Indian camel drivers, the mosque dates from 1888-1889 with the four distinctive minarrets added in 1903.
St Patrick’s Adelaide, has been described as one of the most impressive churches in the Archdiocese of Adelaide. It is the second church on the site. The first church, which faced West Terrace, was the first Catholic Church building in the colony of South Australia. It was also used for some years as a school room.
