Adelaide’s free New Year’s Eve event
Wondering where to go in Adelaide on New Year’s Eve? Join us at Elder Park along the Riverbank!
We'll have all your party needs covered with:
- a huge live music line-up
- a Kids Zone with heaps of children’s entertainment
- fabulous food with over 20 vendors serving up their delicious delicacies
- two rounds of spectacular HomeStart Fireworks (9pm and midnight)
The atmosphere at Elder Park will be electric, with entertainment to suit the young and young at heart.
Please note filming and photography will be taking place at the event.

The historic Rotunda will be in all its glory, bathed in light and providing a focal point for the live music and on-stage performances, including Bollywood dancing!
The event will once again include the Kids Zone, with fun activities for families including a street theatre stage program and roving entertainers.

Food and drinks
A huge variety of food stalls will be located on the Riverbank lawn across from the Convention Centre, with many catering for gluten-free and vegan diets. For a full list of vendors visit our NYE Eats and Treats page.
As we tranisiton to more sustainable events, this year’s event will be straw-free and all food packaging from vendors will be compostable and can be placed in the green organics bins onsite. No BYO alcohol and for the comfort of party-goers this is a non-smoking event.
If you're planning to ride your bike, you can park your bike in special bike-rack stations located throughout the event grounds. If you're catching public transport, Adelaide Metro will be offering free rides in and out of the city all day New Year's Eve. 5:00 pm: Bars and food traders open for business
6:00 pm: Kids Zone opens. Enjoy kids craft workshops, mini-shows in the Little Palais, street theatre performances and bubble shows.
6:40 pm: The City of Adelaide Pipe Band will be marching from Jolly's Boathouse at approximately 6:40 pm and arriving in front of the stage and finishing at around 6:55 pm.
7:00 pm: Welcome to Country - Mickey O'Brien welcomes visitors to Kuarna land from the main stage (Rotunda)
7:15 pm: Entertainment begins on the main stage (Rotunda). See the Main Stage Program for details.
9:00 pm: Homestart Fireworks display accompanied by DJ Tim Whitt
9:15 pm: Entertainment continues on the main stage (Rotunda). See the Main Stage Program for details.
12:00 am: Homestart Fireworks accompanied by DJ Tim Whitt

Fireworks & Exclusion Zones
The HomeStart Fireworks will be launched at 9:00 pm and midnight and will be accompanied by choreographed music by DJ Tim Whitt.
The 9:00 pm fireworks display will be launched from the River Torrens and Pinky Flat. The midnight fireworks display will be launched from the Riverbank Bridge, River Torrens and Pinky Flat.
The Riverbank Bridge will be closed at 8:30pm to facilitate the 9pm fireworks display and will be reopened shortly after the display is complete at approximately 9:10pm. The bridge will close again at 11pm to facilitate the midnight fireworks and reopen at 1am on Tuesday Jan 1 2019.
A number of exclusion zones will be in place in the lead-up and during the event. A map of these zones will be available here prior to the event.
Accessible Viewing & Parking
- An accessible viewing platform will be available in Elder Park and is subject to capacity.
- Accessible toilets will be located close to the viewing platform.
- A passenger pick-up and drop-off zone will be installed on the southern side of Victoria Drive, east of the entrance into Torren’s Parade Grounds from 3 pm. This is located just inside the road closure at the corner of Kintore and Victoria Drive. Vehicles with the appropriate permit will be permitted through the closure for drop-off and pick-up.
- Accessible Parking will be available in Torrens Parade Grounds. Disability Parking Permits will be required to access these parking spaces through the road closure.
- The food vendor BBQ on Wheels will be trading in an accessible location near to the viewing platform along with compliant access to the main food trading areas. An accessible toilet will be provided close by to the viewing platform.

Road Closures & Changes to Traffic Conditions
For the safety of visitors attending and the ease of getting in to our New Year's Eve event the following road closures will take place from Monday 31 December 2018 to Tuesday 1 January 2019.
King William Road between North Terrace and War Memorial Drive
3 pm on Monday
2 am on Tuesday
Victoria Drive between Kintore Avenue and King William Road
3 pm on Monday
2 am on Tuesday
North Terrace between Victoria Street and King William Road
9.30 pm on Monday
1 am on Tuesday
Please note that there other road closures proposed for the same date and time as this event, being a temporary closure of, War Memorial Drive and Pennington Terrace to facilitate the KFC Big Bash League held at Adelaide Oval.
