New Year’s Eve 2018


City of Adelaide’s free New Year’s Eve event is going to be the biggest party in town! We have all your party needs covered with live music, fabulous food, children’s entertainment and of course, spectacular fireworks.

The atmosphere at Elder Park will be electric, with entertainment to suit the young and young at heart. The historic Rotunda will be in all its glory, bathed in light and providing a focal point for the live music. The night sky will light up with two rounds of show-stopping fireworks (9pm & midnight).

The event will include a family zone, with fun activities for kids and adults. There will be a family street theatre stage program, an array of food stalls offering global cuisine and roving entertainers. A variety of beverages will be available for purchase, including a number of licenced bars.

No BYO alcohol and for the comfort of party-goers this is a non-smoking event.

Food & Drinks

A variety of food stalls will be located on the Riverbank Lawn adjacent to the Convention Centre. Several vendors will be positioned close to the accessibility viewing platform. The caterers will be carefully selected to provide people with a wide choice of food options including vegetarian and vegan.

Please note that all food packaging at this year’s event is compostable and can be deposited in the organics collection bins onsite. This ensures the materials can be processed into valuable nutrient rich compost to grow more quality, South Australian produce.

Straw Ban

The City of Adelaide is working towards more sustainable events. Join us as we reduce single-use plastics to look after our environment now and into the future.

This Year’s event will be straw-free and we encourage you to pledge your support at the bar by placing a token in the specially marked jars to show your support for reducing single-use plastic straws. 

If you require a straw, there will be a limited supply of appropriate reusable straws available at bars upon request.

Fireworks & Exclusion Zones

The Fireworks will be launched at 9:00 pm and midnight and will be accompanied by a choreographed music track.

The 9:00 pm fireworks display will be launched from the River Torrens and Pinky Flat. The midnight fireworks display will be launched from the Riverbank Bridge, River Torrens and Pinky Flat.

The Riverbank Bridge will be closed at 8:30pm to facilitate the 9pm fireworks display and will be reopened shortly after the display is complete at approximately 9:10pm. The bridge will close again at 11pm to facilitate the midnight fireworks and reopen at 1am on Tuesday Jan 1 2019.

 A number of exclusion zones will be in place in the lead-up and during the event. A map of these zones will be available here prior to the event.

Accessible Viewing & Parking

An accessible viewing platform will be available in Elder Park and is subject to capacity.

A passenger pick-up and drop-off zone will be installed on the southern side of Victoria Drive, west of the entrance into Torren’s Parade Grounds from 4 pm.

Accessible Parking will be available in Torrens Parade Grounds. Disability Parking Permits will be required to utilise these parking spaces.

The food vendor On Wheels Events will be trading in an accessible location near to the viewing platform. An accessible toilet will be provided close by to the viewing platform.

Road Closures & Changes to Traffic Conditions

Monday 31 December 2018 to Tuesday 1 January 2019

King William Road: A full road closure will be in place (time to TBC) on Monday 31 December between Victoria Drive and North Terrace.

Getting There

Access to the event site will be via King William Road, Adelaide Railway Station, temporary stairs on the north side of the Intercontinental and the Torren’s linear path.

Public transport will be running to and from the city. Check out the Adelaide Metro website for details. 

Parking will be available at City of Adelaide UPark's as well as on-street parking around the City of Adelaide.

The closest UPark's are located UPark on Topham and UPark on Rundle.
