River Torrens Linear Path – Footpath Renewal Works

Project status

Construction Phase - Demolition

Project overview

The City of Adelaide is undertaking works along the Torrens where the footpath descends under the Hindmarsh bridge.

This project focuses on renewing ageing footpath infrastructure to support safe, reliable and ongoing use for path users, event organisers, and the wider community.

Works are to include:

  • Footpath widening – Improving access for all path users
  • New lighting installation – Four new lights to improve visibility along the path
  • Fencing renewal – Improving safety with Aus Roads fencing
  • Riverbank and retaining repairs – Improving safety and repairing water damage to the River Torrens embankment.

Project timing

The footpath will be closed from 28th Jan to the end of February.

Advance notification signage has been installed along the River Torrens Linear Path, with the signage placed on 17 December 2025. Additional signs are located further along the trail to help notify people using the path.

How this affects park users

During works, temporary changes to access may be required around the immediate work area. Clear signage will be in place to guide people safely past the site.

Redirections are in place for path users with another alternative redirect sign posted on Adam St for path users convenience.

A detour map is available to help path users navigate the works.

Benefits of the project

  • Improved safety and reliability of the shared use path
  • Reduced maintenance
  • Infrastructure that meets current electrical and safety standards
  • Continued support for events and community use of the park

Next steps

Construction will proceed in line with the approved design. This project page will be updated if timeframes or site conditions change.
