Pirie Street Public Lighting Renewal
Project status
Construction Phase
Project overview
The City of Adelaide is renewing public lighting along Pirie Street (King William to Gawler Place) to ensure safe, reliable and consistent lighting for residents, businesses and visitors.
Many of the existing light poles and underground cables are ageing assets and are reaching the end of their service life. The project will deliver a modern lighting system designed to current standards, improving visibility and amenity along this busy city street.
What we're doing
Works will focus on replacing end-of-life poles and associated electrical infrastructure to provide consistent lighting levels for public safety. Some areas are unlit and will have new lights installed.
Why this project is needed
Several poles along Pirie Street have required recent repairs or partial renewal due to age and condition. Upgrading the lighting network will:
• improve night-time visibility and safety
• address non-compliant and ageing infrastructure
• provide more consistent lighting for pedestrians and road users
• reduce ongoing maintenance and unplanned outages
Timing
Construction: Commencing End March 2026 ending Late June 2026
Works will be undertaken only at night. With the intention to remediate any trenching ready for the days traffic. There may be occasions where some temporary remediations are necessary to maintain Traffic / Cyclist flow however they will be minimised as best as possible.
Further details about construction timing and any temporary impacts will be shared on this page once confirmed.
Next steps
