Pergola Renewal - Peppermint Park and Veale Park
Project status
Construction Phase
Project overview
The City of Adelaide is undertaking two pergola renewal projects, at Park 18 Peppermint Park and Park 21 Veale Park. The existing pergolas have been identified as being in poor condition, with a Structural assessment undertaken concluding renewal works are required to enhance stability and longevity
The project aims to deliver a refurbished pergola that has minimal impact/disturbance to the structural integrity of the pergolas. The objective is to create an improved and well-maintained structure that matches into the existing fabric as it is important to maintain the historical appearance, whilst positively contributing to the surrounding environment.
Renewal of existing Pergola Structure will take utmost care to maintain the existing creeper/vine over the structure during and post works.
What we’re doing
Renewal work that will consist of (but not limited to) cleaning, securing loose connections, replacement of corroded bolts, replacement of members, filling of gaps and pruning of existing vegetation.
Why we’re doing it
Initial inspections identified the pergola as being in poor condition. Further investigation provided the extent of deterioration and determined the most appropriate approach to ensure the structure remains safe, functional and well maintained for the community.
Protecting the grape vine
Renewal planning will take the utmost care to retain and protect the existing vine growing over both the pergola structures. This will be a key consideration throughout the construction process.

How this affects the community
During the construction phase, there will be impact to park users of the pergolas. They will be out of use until renewal works are complete. Both pergolas will be worked on simultaneously. Park users can still visit the park around the renewal works.
