Bonython Park – Footpath Renewal

Project status

Construction Phase

Project overview

The City of Adelaide is undertaking footpath renewal works along a section of the River Torrens Linear Trail in Bonython Park / Tulya Wardli (Park 27), west of Victoria Bridge (Morphett Bridge).

The works will improve the condition of the existing trail and require temporary changes to access during construction.

What we’re doing

We are renewing a 160m section of the shared path, extending the existing retaining wall and associated public lighting along the River Torrens Linear Trail.

The works will involve construction activity under and near the bridge, with temporary detours in place to safely manage movement through the area.

Why we’re doing it

The existing footpath and lighting have reached the end of life and require renewal to improve safety and usability along this busy section of the river trail.

When works are happening

Construction is expected to commence from Monday February 2 and continue for approximately six weeks, weather and site conditions permitting.

How this affects trail users

During construction, temporary changes to access will be in place for all path users travelling through the area.

This will include:

  • short-term closures along sections of the trail
  • clearly signed detours to guide people safely around the works
  • temporary redirection along alternative river paths

The section of trail will remain accessible during major events where possible.

Keeping the community informed

Early notification signage has been installed along the trail, with additional on-site signage to be provided by the contractor as works progress.

This project page serves as an additional resource for informing the community about anticipated disruptions.

Next steps

Works will commence in February 2026. This page will be updated if timeframes or access arrangements change.
