Barton Terrace East Renewal
Project status
Delivery Phase
Project overview
We’re planning improvement works at the Barton Terrace East and Lefevre Terrace roundabout to make the area safer and easier to use for people walking, cycling and driving.
What's happening
The works will include:
- raised paving indicators at crossings to support people with low vision
- road humps to help slow traffic
- improved line markings to make cycling through the roundabout safer
- road resurfacing along Barton Terrace East
- a new set-back kerb to support two accessible parking spaces near 37 Barton Terrace East.
These changes are designed to slow vehicles, improve crossing safety and support better access through the area.
Why are we doing this work
The Barton Terrace East and Lefevre Terrace roundabout is an important connection between the Park Lands and the city.
Community feedback and planning work have shown support for safer crossings and better links for people walking and riding bikes.
The accessible parking spaces near 37 Barton Terrace East will also be updated to meet current standards. To create a safer and more accessible layout, three trees will need to be removed.
We understand trees and green spaces are important. Additional trees have recently been planted along Barton Terrace East on both the road and Park Lands sides.
What this means for you
During the works, you may notice:
- temporary road closures and traffic changes
- changes to on-street parking near the roundabout
- construction noise and disruption
- staged road resurfacing to help reduce impacts.
We will work to keep disruption to a minimum and provide updates before works begin.
Access and parking during construction
To support access during construction, the following options will be available:
- unrestricted parking on Lefevre Road and Medindie Road
- visitor parking permits allowing an additional two hours - apply here
- managed driveway access with on-site traffic control.
When works will happen
Construction is expected to start in May and be completed by early June.
Exact dates will be confirmed closer to the time.
