Barnard Street Road Renewal

Project status

Delivery Phase

Project overview

We are renewing Barnard Street to improve road condition, support tree health and enhance the overall street environment for people who live, work and travel in the area.

These works form part of the City of Adelaide’s capital works program and will help extend the life of the road while improving how the street looks and functions.

What we're doing

The Barnard Street renewal includes upgrading the road surface and improving surrounding street elements.

As part of the works, we are:

  • renewing the road surface
  • renewing concrete tree surrounds to give trees more space to grow
  • making small parking adjustments in select locations to accommodate larger tree surrounds

These improvements will support healthier street trees and contribute to a more consistent and attractive streetscape.

Why are we doing this work

Road renewal is an important part of maintaining Adelaide’s local streets.

Over time, road surfaces wear out due to traffic, weather and regular use. Renewing the street now helps ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for purpose, while reducing the need for more significant repairs later.

What to expect

During construction, there may be some temporary impacts, including:

  • changed traffic conditions
  • temporary parking adjustments
  • noise from construction activity
  • temporary impacts to property access (with notice provided where possible)

We will work closely with our contractor to minimise disruption and maintain access wherever it is safe and practical.

Timing

  • April to mid-June 2026
  • Working hours: 7am to 5pm (up to 7pm during resurfacing)

Working with residents and businesses

We understand construction can be disruptive and appreciate the patience of residents, businesses and visitors while these works are underway.

Our team will continue to work closely with affected properties and the contractor to respond to issues as they arise and help reduce impacts where possible.

While the project is already approved and funded, we’re keen to understand any local access needs.

You can provide feedback on:

  • Access requirements for your property during construction
  • Any specific needs (e.g. trades, deliveries, accessibility)
  • Local insights that may help us minimise disruption
