Awesome things to do when in Adelaide

Local food and wine

Fresh local produce, fantastic food and wine are at the heart of Adelaide culture. South Australia accounts for 60 per cent of Australia’s total wine exports so you are bound to come across some impressive wine lists whilst dining in the city. The Adelaide Central Market has been Adelaide’s home of fresh produce and culinary delights for over 150 years. It’s the perfect place to meet and grab a bite to eat while shopping. Impress your friends with gifts from iconic brands like Haigh’s Chocolates, Charlesworth Nuts and Coopers Brewery.

Be ready to party

Adelaide has its share of globally-renowned events for you to enjoy. The Adelaide Fringe, held in February is the second largest Fringe Festival, and highest ticket selling multi-arts festival in Australia. Children of all ages love our Christmas Pageant, which is the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere! Music lovers revel in our biennial Adelaide Guitar Festival. Aside from our huge program of major events, there’s always something happening in the city. Check out our What’s On calendar to discover the best of Adelaide events.

Climate

You’ll enjoy a pleasant Mediterranean-like climate with four distinct seasons. The amiable weather means you can get out and embrace all the city has to offer - all year round!

Summer (December, January and February). We love our long hot summers. The dress code is casual and the beach becomes a home away from home, especially on balmy nights when the sun sets after 8:30 pm thanks to daylight savings.

Autumn (March, April and May). With its mild days and breezy nights, autumn is the perfect time for the many festivals held in the city.

Winter (June, July and August). Winter is cool, and our wet weather season. It can drop down to 6°C overnight, so best to pack a jacket and umbrella, just in case.

Spring (September, October and November). Ah, spring! Glorious mild days and the fragrance of fresh blooms in the air. Do check the weather forecast for rain if you are planning a picnic in the park.

Many cafes and restaurants also offer free WiFi to paying customers. Just ask for the password when you place your order. Alternatively, the City of Adelaide's libraries offer access to a computer connected to the internet for use.
