In order for your application to be considered and to enable Council to meet its statutory requirements, applications should be received a minimum of 3 months prior to the scheduled event / activity date (dates to match booking form time frames). Lead times of up to 6 months may be necessary for more complex closures or where it is associated with the staging of a major event.
Road Closures require consultation/notification with all potentially affected stakeholders, including Emergency Services. The Road Events Coordinator will advise you of who you will be required to consult and or notify after your application has been received. Once the consultation/notification is complete a report will be prepared and presented to Council or the Chief Executive Officer for a decision on your application.
If your road closure is approved, notice of the closure/s is required to be published in the Public Notice section of a nominated paper, in most cases this will be The Advertiser. The cost of the Public Notice is the responsibility of the applicant.
The scale of the event and the likely impact of the closure on the city’s traffic system will determine the level of planning and information required by the Council to progress the application through to final approval.
Fees and Charges
The fee for a road closure is $748 inc. GST as set out in accordance with City of Adelaide’s current Fees & Charges Schedule. Not-for-profit organisations will not be charged this application fee.
Additionally, you will be required to pay the advertising fee to advertise the road closure in the Public Notices of the Advertiser Newspaper. The associated cost is set by The Advertiser and currently is approximately $250. Fees also apply for Operational Service delivered by Council and costs are set based on requirements.
You will also be required to engage the services of a Traffic Management Company to manage and implement the road closures. These fees generally start from approx. $1500 for small road closures but you will need to consult directly with a Traffic Management Company to determine an approximate cost for your proposed road closure.
Please be aware that fees may apply for the provision of:
- Installation of reserved on street parking (Temporary Parking Controls – TPCs)
- Infrastructure erected inside the road closure e.g. Marquees, staging, scaffolding
- Site hire fees for the Adelaide Park Lands
