The City of Adelaide uses data and undertakes research on a range of topics to assist us in planning and understanding our city.

Population profiles

The City of Adelaide provides a suite of products that presents information about our residents and our economy. These products are available for all to use through the links below.

profile.id provides information about our local community and is based on data from the 2021 Census of Population and Housing from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. It tells us who lives in the city, how old they are, what they do and how they live.

How many people are likely to be living in the City of Adelaide in 5-, 10- or 20-years' time? forecast.id helps us plan by providing an indication of the future makeup of our city residents in terms of age and household types.

economy.id brings together data from multiple sources to provide a profile of the city’s economy. Information is available on the value of the local economy, number and types of businesses in the city, how people travel into the city, and city workers.

City User Profile Survey

The City User Profile Survey (CUP) is a long-running study conducted by the City of Adelaide. It helps us to understand who is visiting the city, why they are visiting and how this changes over time.

The latest research was conducted in April to June 2022.

Resident and business surveys

The City of Adelaide conduct regular surveys with residents and businesses to collects information on a broad range of topics to inform our work.

The latest Resident Survey was conducted in August/September 2022. The survey included questions on various topics such as health and wellbeing, access and inclusion, Council performance, aspects of city living, and planning for the future. The survey results can be found here.

The latest Business Survey was held in September/October 2021. The purpose of the Business Survey is to gather local business data that is not available elsewhere. Topics covered in the survey include business sentiment and confidence, Council performance, environmental sustainability and working from home intentions. The survey results can be found here.

    City Growth Story

    The City Growth Story collates data on a broad range of topics to provide a snapshot of the city and is used to inform the development of our strategic plans. The first City Growth Story was created in 2015 updated in 2018. The State of the City Report was compiled in 2022 and informed the development of the City of Adelaide Strategic Plan 2024-2028
