Adelaide is a university city that’s unique in Australia, with four universities – the University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, Carnegie Mellon University and University of Ballarat - located within the CBD and providing a broad range of courses to more than 40,000 students.

No other inner city area in Australia can boast such a major concentration of education activity, making the City as a whole a virtual campus for student life.

Each university has earned an international reputation for teaching and research and all three are included in the Times Higher Education ranking of the world’s top 200 universities.

Adelaide has an extensive vocational training system with a wide range of specialised tertiary learning institutions. The largest of these is Adelaide TAFE, located in the CBD, with well over 20,000 students.

The City brings together students not just from South Australia, but from rural and regional areas around Australia, and from overseas.
