Adelaide Zoo

In a jungle-like setting a short stroll from the city, the Adelaide Zoo sprawls across 8 hectares of Park Lands. In amongst the more than 1,800 species of animals are almost 300 species of exotic and native creatures. Walk past fearsome lions, stands of bamboo and heritage buildings, all without leaving the gates.

On display are native Australian species along with animals from around the world. There are dozens of notable members of the zoo, such as the giant pandas Wang Wang and Funi. There are also African lions, giraffes, flamingos, alligators, seals, orangutans and many more. Mammals, birds, monkeys, reptiles and insects can be seen in a number of open-air habitats, providing a great day of sightseeing for visitors. With some of the original structures dating back to the Zoo's opening in the late 1800s, this is a great place to stroll on a sunny day.

Families can get hands-on with a number of Australian animals at the Children's Zoo. The variety of animals moving freely through the enclosure keep the younger visitors entertained. The Westpac Envirodome puts the focus on conservation. The interactive exhibits are factual, accessible, and fun, and visitors can explore their connections to the things they eat, breathe and drink. Conservation tips are abundant, along with achievable changes to your lifestyle. Exhibits demonstrate the impact of humankind’s activities on plants, animals, and the global ecology.

Adelaide Zoo rewards exploration, and several guided tours are available. Walking tours, up-close animal encounters, behind the scenes, even an overnight stay in tents so you can rise to the call of the wild! Bookings are required for some tours, so check online for details.
